Staying several nights at Capitol Reef Resort in Torrey, while exploring nearby Capitol Reef NP, was a delight! They have a variety of accommodations, restaurants, activities and even llamas.
Accommodations
Depending on your mood and their availability, you can choose conventional or nonconventional lodging at Capitol Reef Resort near Torrey, Utah and Capitol Reef National Park.
Teepees
One nonconventional lodging option that was unfortunately booked up during our dates was the teepees. There are several teepee camps set up that consists of about 4 or 5 teepees that surround their own fire pit. Each teepee is set up with a bed and TV, kind of like an outside hotel room.
Covered Wagons
How about a covered wagon? There are 3 covered wagon camps with 6 covered wagons each that also surround their own fire pit. Amazingly enough, these Conestoga wagons sleep up to six people with the use of bunkbeds.
Cabins
Another choice would be the individual cabins that are spread throughout the resort. Grill out on your private deck or cook in your full kitchen.
Hotel Rooms
We chose a resort hotel room. These are typical hotel accommodations and have private balconies with beautiful Red Rock Cliff views.
Amenities
Pool
The heated pool is enclosed with a glass window fence. The views are unobstructed and there is also a hot tub. Nice spot for unwinding and enjoying the beautiful Red Rock Cliffs.
Fitness Center
The Fitness Center is close to the pool with a wall of windows allowing you to enjoy the same views. It’s available 24 hours daily and has a nice variety of equipment.
Laundry
There are several laundry facilities in the resort. The one that was conveniently very close to us, could’ve used a couple more machines. The dryer dries very quickly though and I liked that.
Fire Pits
Even though there was only one fire pit for the hotels and I guess also for the cabins, it wasn’t crowded. We were easily able to get chairs for all 4 of us while we enjoyed our s’mores (set ups sold in gift shop). The teepee and wagon camps have their own fire pits.
Gift Shop
The gift shop is located in the main building with lobby and restaurant. You can buy snacks, drinks, souvenirs and essentials for s’mores here. The one thing that wasn’t available while we were there was bottled water. Not sure why. We were a little surprised. But we were happy about the s’mores and other items.
Restaurants
Rim Rock Restaurant
Across the road from Capitol Reef Resort is Rim Rock Restaurant. We walked over for dinner one night. Nice views. The food might be wonderful, but we accidentally had a light snack due to a miscommunication. Haha
Patio Pizza & BBQ
We also walked to Patio Pizza thinking we would have a pizza and a glass of wine. They serve beer, you have to buy a bottle of wine at restaurant and bring your own. I believe they said the same person owns both.
Pioneer Kitchen
The Pioneer Kitchen is located inside the main building of Capitol Reef Resort. They have Smoked Trout Dip served with veggies and chips. The dip is delish! We also had breakfast here several times and it was very good.
Chak Balam
Further into Torrey is a really good Mexican restaurant called Chak Balam which is Mayan for Red Jaguar. Even tho this one is not at the resort, it’s worth the short drive. We had lunch there and really enjoyed it.
Animals
Rabbits
We kept spotting the cutest little bunnies around the resort. We noticed one hopping out in the brush as we were exploring. Even walking around the resort we noticed some in different places. We collected a to go box for them at dinner one nite.
Horse Stables/ Trail Rides
While out on the patio we noticed some horseback riders. It’s nice that they offer horseback riding and have horse stables on the property.
Llamas
So one of the fun things is seeing the Llamas. You can walk out to the Llama Corral and see them eating and hanging out there. Or you can go on day hikes with the Llamas packing your food and gear. For the ultimate experience, book overnite treks for up to 6 days.
Just Sharing
I don’t do a lot of posts on lodging, but we took so many pictures here, and it warranted sharing. This was not a comped stay or comped post in any way. This is our experience and opinions. I would stay here again and recommend Capitol Reef Resort if you are in the Capitol Reef NP area. It’s convenient with so much to offer, hence all of the photos!

This looks like such a fun and unique place to stay!
What a fun place! I would definitely want to spend the night in one of those covered wagons! The Tipis are cool as well… much larger than the ones we have slept in!
This looks awesome! I definitely would want to stay in a teepee…but it sounds like everyone else does too! Good to know we’d have to book well in advance.
So many fun lodging accommodations! I love staying in fun places! We’re staying in a yurt in a few weeks, and I’m so excited!!
Looks like a great time in Capitol Reef!
