We happened to stop at this amazing rest stop on I70, south of Salt Lake City headed to Moab. We had just left Fishlake National Forest and Pando, The Trembling Giant. We were out of the Forest and into the rocky terrain.
Sand Bench View Area is probably more correct, although I’ve seen Castle Valley Overlook on a map too.
There is an overlook down into a valley, but the most impressive part to me is where you exit off I70 and drive in.
It’s a short and easy walk back and you will see some interesting tree trunks along the way beside a picnic table with benches- ‘the bench’ (?). It’s called Sand Bench View Area for some reason, right?
When you get back to the flat rocks that you pass coming in, walk out among them. It’s like you are on another planet. The huge, smooth rocks are like alien rocks and they have lots of large crevices that you can climb in.
We were so in awe of this area with the out of this world rocks at the rest stop, and we hadn’t even gotten to any National Parks yet. Great place to stop and play for a bit!

About Us
We are Bud and Debbie Lilly, two travel lovers from Texas. Spending an enormous amount of time researching each location to find the best places to eat, sites to see and things to do is actually something I love to do. Not for everyone, I know. But, we are blogging our experiences to let you know what you can expect in each location and so you don’t have to redo the research. Let us know if you go on any of the same trips and if you find places that impress you. We would love to hear from you!
We feel so enriched by the people we meet and the places we see. Thank you for supporting our blog!

I am traveling eastward solo in my 23 foot class c RV with cat. I love the route from Salina to Green River. I’ve been through many times and it always takes my breath away! Would love to tell you about other roads. Louise Moises
