Boston was another day trip that we took during a New York City trip. We left very early from NYC and we took an Amtrak Train to Boston for the day. Upon our arrival in Boston we boarded a hop on hop off bus to tour the city. We love this option because it’s reliable transportation to all of the major sites that we want to visit and it let’s us go at our own pace. One of the best parts is that you have a guide to share history, stories and facts about the attractions and city in general as you go. The bus will stop at interesting places that you can jump off and visit and then about every fifteen to twenty minutes another bus will make that same stop and you can jump on one and continue your tour. That way you can stay a short time or a long time or skip any stop all together.
Boston is an old and historic city-American Revolution centric. There are plenty of museums to explore including the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, which is floating. Also, there is The Paul Revere home that is not only the oldest home in Boston, it’s also a museum. And so many more. Check out the oldest surviving church, the Old North Church. And if you have time you can check out the Boston Public Garden, Beacon Hill with the row houses in Federal architecture style, or Captain Jackson’s Historic Chocolate shop. Maybe you have kids and just want to go to the zoo or aquarium. Lots to do here. I want to spend some time at the Mapparium next time. It’s a three story globe that you view from a bridge inside. Sounds like a cool attraction. We enjoyed the stops we made though.
We timed our stop just right at the Cheers bar and made time to eat lunch there. It was a tasty lunch. We snapped some pictures outside 1st. Another couple had gotten off for lunch here too and we traded out being photographers for each other. They didn’t know our names, but that’s ok. Cheers!
Another stop that we lingered at for a while was Fenway Park. Big Dog especially enjoyed this old stadium. Our daughter is a huge Red Sox fan and I know she would’ve loved it too!
Big Dog’s Review: One of the highlights for me on this Boston day trip from NYC via Amtrack, was the tv show, Cheers, bar. We had lunch here. The food was good. The bar inside is not what you see on the show. The show was filmed in studio in Las Angeles. The outside sign is the only thing used in the show. The other main attraction was Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox play baseball. No game today but it was fun to look around the old ballpark. Lots of history here in Boston you should check it out!

Boston is so close to us but I have yet to go — we’re close to NYC so I might redo this trip. Glad to hear the tour buses are running during this time!
We spent a few hours in Boston on our Epic Road Trip. We had dinner in Cheers and spent some time in the park across the street. The weather was pretty crappy that day, so we cancelled our tour of Fenway. Would love to go back and spend some more time there!
My husband and I plan to make it to Boston one of these days, but we want to see NYC again at the same time. That’s great you were able to do both during this trip! Thanks for the tips!
Great article – Boston is on my bucket list and the bus tour sounds like the best way to take in the city’s attractions. I’ve done that in Paris and Barcelona, and the hop on, hop off options are great! Thanks for sharing.

It worked out well for us! We did this trip when there were no travel restrictions. Hopefully everything will open soon!
I can’t wait to get to Boston to visit some family and take in some sights (when the restrictions are lifted).
