We just had the best trip to Boerne, TX! We found the best place to stay! The best food! The best hike! And, unexpectedly, an abundance of ducks.
If you have followed us long, you know this isn’t our first trip to Boerne, so we sought out some different places for this trip. They were all hits. We also noticed some things for the first time. such as, Main Street is aptly named Hauptstrasse, as it translates to ‘main road’ from German.
Best Place to Stay in Boerne
We stayed at a newer hotel called The Bevy. For us, this was the best place that we have stayed in Boerne. We loved the location convenient to Main Street, but also backing up to a green belt for a nice view. The first impression, and impressive gesture, was them giving us delicious, warm pecan chocolate chip cookies at check-in!
The public spaces at The Bevy were outstanding. There was live music in the lobby/bar on both Friday and Saturday nights. The place was hopping and all of the guests were having a great time.
The pool area was very spacious with covered tables, covered lounge chairs and an outdoor fireplace all surrounding the large pool. There were plenty of chairs and patio furniture to accommodate laying out, or just relaxing and hanging out. Our favorite part was the immersed pool ledge with cool sculpted chaise loungers.
The Bevy Provisions Co, is the on-site restaurant and where we had dinner one night. We were actually served at one of the open tables in the main lobby. There is lots of seating here for dining and drinks while visiting or enjoying the live music. The food was really good and of course it was so convenient.
There is also a fancy coffee shop in the lobby called Wander’n Calf that has you covered for fresh brews. Our group enjoyed having this option on the way out for the day.
Not often can you pick up a pair of cowboy boots at your hotel, but at The Bevy, DoubleTree by Hilton you certainly can! Does anything say ‘Texas Hill Country hotel’ more?
Best Places to Eat in Boerne
The Dienger Trading Co
We’ve had The Dienger Trading Co on our favorites list for a while, although we had only enjoyed lunch here. We had breakfast here twice on our most recent trip though. It is located right on Main Street, has an interesting building history and charming outdoor seating in addition to the indoor dining rooms and boutique. Food is always fresh and delish.
Cypress Grille
Other than a Sunday or a Monday, Cypress Grille is another excellent choice on Main Street. You will be happy you made this choice when you experience their mouthwatering entrees and desserts.
The Dodging Duck Brewhaus & Restaurant
Open seven days a week and just off Main Street on River Road, is The Dodging Duck Brewhaus & Restaurant. It is across the street from the Cibolo Creek, which you may be able to see if you are sitting in the right spot. There are several other restaurants in the same area on River Road. We enjoyed our meal along with live music here and even saw some ducks as we walked back to our vehicle afterwards.
Peggy’s On The Green
Make your reservation and be ready for a wonderful dining experience at Peggy’s on the Green. Located at The Kendall, a luxury meets charm historic hotel/venue, just a block or so off Main Street. We had a fabulous dinner here enjoying the soft live music and the company of our friends.
After dinner at Peggy’s on the Green, we checked out the adjoining Kendall Inn. We were invited to go back through the courtyard to see the cabins, chapel suite etc. I think this would be a charming place to stay or have an event.
Boerne Grill
One morning we chose Boerne Grill as our breakfast spot. It’s also on Main Street, or Hauptstrasse, in a history filled building but has a more casual feel.
The Best Hikes in Boerne
Maybe instead of best hikes, I should say the best ‘strolls’ we enjoyed. Even with 100° temps in July, we took advantage of a cool morning and barely broke a sweat on our short adventures.
River Road Park
Again, just off Main Street, along River Road, you will find River Road Park. This shallow park area between River Road and the Cibolo Creek is just across the street from the previously mentioned restaurants, including The Dodging Duck. There’s a paved path to saunter along the beside the river for a short ways to enjoy all the turtles, ducks, and nature. The many ducks/geese (I’m no expert) are not scared of humans. They just do their thing and are good entertainment.
One of the ducks at the River Road Park had made her nest on the ground in a tree hollow. She wasn’t phased by our presence or our photo taking and just kept sitting on her nest.
Cibolo Center for Conservation
We drove a few minutes outside of downtown to the Cibolo Center for Conservation. It was closed while we were there, but looked like an awesome educational place. We were still able to hike though and were so glad that we did.
We started at the trail head, went over the boardwalk and past the treehouse overlook then ended up veering off the trail in the woods where the Cibolo Creek was running through. There’s a little cement walkway over it, but the water was actually covering it slightly, in spite of the summer drought conditions.
This was such a beautiful area with cypress trees lining the creek banks on either side in both directions. I just love how the cypress trees stand in the water, reminds me of huge elephant feet. It’s very shady and tranquil here, just a short hike from the conservation center. This was the best hike in Boerne that we strolled along.
There you have it-our ’bests’ from recent Boerne trip!
We enjoyed Waco and Marble Falls on the way, then a couple of side trips including Johnson City and Fredericksburg. Click here for our recent full weekend trip to Fredericksburg.

Boerne looks like a fun town to stay in. And The Bevy is gorgeous. I love those chaise lounges in the water. And cookies at check in is a bonus!
Boerne, TX, is on our list of places to explore. Lisa spent some time in San Antonio and never made it to “Texas Hill Country” and regrets it. The Bevy looks and sounds incredible. Thank you for sharing!
Yes The Bevy was a great family friendly hotel!
There is so much to do and so many awesome towns in the Hill Country, so we go often and experience it in chunks. Haha We love SA too and lump it into Hill Country 🙂
Boerne, TX looks like a great vacation destination. That hotel you stayed at looks fun! I love when they have the lounge chairs that are in the water. The best of both worlds… water and relaxation!

Right?! We don’t usually spend time hanging out at the hotel, but we made an exception here!
